Job Description

Above all else, lead teachers at KIPP Ascend Primary must embody the following characteristics:

 

·         Lead teachers are goal-driven in their instruction and focused on producing measurable results that prepare all students for college and the world beyond.

 

·         Lead teachers interact respectfully with students, parents and faculty members even in challenging circumstances.

 

·         Lead teachers create, utilize and reflect upon long-term plans, unit plans, and daily lesson plans in their instructional practice.

 

Lead Teacher Job Description

Classroom Responsibilities

  • Set clear short-term and long-term goals to drive instruction

·         Assess student learning and uses assessment data to drive instructional choices

·         Implement school-wide student management policies within classrooms and on campus

·         Infuse KIPP Ascend Primary’s core values into daily lessons

·         Provide necessary accommodations and modifications for the growth and success of all students

·         Communicate with parents regarding each students’ academic progress

·         Maintain an open-door policy for observations

·         Maintain an organized and focused learning environment

·         Uphold all school policies within the classroom

 

Mentoring Responsibilities

  • Meet weekly with the classroom co-teacher to lesson plan and discuss upcoming classroom events
  • Observe co-teacher and debrief on classroom management and instructional strategies
  • Provide feedback on lesson plans created by the co-teacher
  • Analyze the co-teacher’s small group data together in order to brainstorm an instructional action plan
  • Hold oneself accountable for the achievement and growth of all children in the classroom, including those supported by the co-teacher
  • Provide feedback to the principal as to the type of support and development needed by the co-teacher

Team Responsibilities

  • Work as part of interdisciplinary team to collaboratively lesson plan, align curricula, and create interim assessments
  • Respond to feedback from formal and informal evaluations by peers and the principal
  • Receive and respond appropriately to feedback from students, parents and teammates
  • View feedback as a tool to improve and grow in all teacher responsibilities, and use it in this capacity
  • Actively pursue own professional development in areas that will have the greatest impact on student achievement
  • Participate in school-wide professional development, such as seminars/workshops and one-on-one coaching with manager
Job Qualifications

The following is required of all applicants:

ü  A bachelor’s degree

ü  Illinois teaching credential or equivalent

ü  Two years of full-time teaching experience in an early childhood or elementary classroom
